Do you know that gas prices are already seriosuly rising with all of the turmoil in the Middle East? Gas prices usually start to head up around spring time after Easter thru Memorial Day, peak around the 4th of July and stay high thru Labor Day, but we're already seeing rising gas prices. A barrel of oil is now over $100 so get ready to see major inflation at the pump.
Rising fuel costs concern me for many reasons. There is a trickle down effect where food prices will be forced to go up as everyone who trucks in our goods will have to jack up their prices. I also drive a SUV, so the value of my car is headed down the toilet. The only reason I drive my car is for safety since I am generally taxing my 2 and 3 year olds around and there are deer on the side of the road where I live. Just last week I drove by 2 families of deer on the highway which scared the beejeezies out of me!!!! We also have heavy rain and occasionally ice and snow so with kids I prefer to have a safe car over deer hooves in my face or a tree in my car. I have been seriously considering trading in my car for some time now just to save on gas as it is, and now I might not be able to get anything for my car with higher fuel prices. When that hurricane hit the Houston oil fields a few summers ago we had gas prices in the mid $4 range here in ATL and many stations weren't even able to GET GAS. Pricing on everything went up as a result and people quit spending and my husband wasn't able to make as much money so we were really scraping by. Car dealerships put the gas guzzlers in the back and the hybrids out in front. This fresh round of high gas prices will effect everything from food prices to jobs so I am understandably concerned. As a couponer this will either cause me to get everything I can free just so I can rack up my fuel points or will keep me at home so I'm not driving around blowing gas just to work a deal. Looking at trends and the current rioting in Lybia, gas prices will be $4 a gallon by May if not sooner. So make sure to calculate inflated fuel costs into your summer travel plans. Put all of your overages towards gas cards now!!! Check out the pictures of prices at the pump I took at my local Kroger on Thursday and then today. This is unfortunately just the beginning my friends :(

I suggest that you sit tight for now. There is no telling what will happen over the next six months in the Arab Middle East. Gasoline might be $6.00 a gallon this summer and it really won't matter if you get 20 MPG or 35 MGP. Besides, this is not a good time of the year to buy a new vehicle. Spend some time reading edmunds.com reviews and insights. What happens in the Middle East will affect much more than the price of gasoline; bread could be $4.00 and milk could be $6.99. The deer will settle down come Spring and the ice and snow will soon be gone
